Now 2012 has rolled around and its 6 months until the Olympics kicks off I thought I’d offer some advice to others who at some point may want to go on this journey…
1. Every day counts, this is easy when it’s a track session (because I’m a runner and that’s my ‘office’) but its also important to follow the black line up and down the pool with 12-year olds going past you when its in the program
2. The little things also count, including the 2000mins+ you will spend sat in a 10 degree bath in the next six months
3. You think getting a massage once a week will be nice and relaxing, it isn’t it hurts, sometimes more than the training itself
4. Your modeling career will probably never kick off, especially if you deadlift like I do and your shins are more black, blue and sometimes purple than anything else
5. Get a boyfriend/girlfriend BEFORE the year comes round, because generally socializing goes out the window and a new partner is probably not want to spend every night on the couch with you because you are too tired/grumpy to move
6. You realise the foetal position is OK, as long as you make it to the privacy of your living room as opposed to just collapsing in the driveway
7. Your dog (and training partner) spends 20 hours a day asleep on the rug
8. Your weekly food bill triples and you still have no food in the house
9. The only clothes you wear is running gear or compression tights (for recovery)
10. It’s a totally awesome experience and I wouldn’t want to be doing anything else
