We’re at 157 days to go and momentum continues to build.
Our focus at the moment is getting out to all the athletes likely to make the team to London and giving them an idea of just what the London Olympic Games will be like.
We kicked off a series of workshops in Invercargill with the cycling team before heading up to Auckland and then down to Cambridge and Wellington over the next few weeks.
The workshops are a great opportunity for us to meet the athletes and for them to find out about the team that will be supporting them during the Olympic Games. We’re also showing athletes images of the village where they’ll live, giving them an overview of the huge media interest to expect and of course, trying on their team uniform.
There was a real air of excitement in the workshops – especially for the athletes who were aiming for their first Olympic Games.
Our aim is to provide the resources to enable athletes to deliver on their potential at the Olympic Games and making sure they know what to expect is important.
We’re also working with SKY Sport to film a series of athlete interviews talking about their inspiration, their hobbies, their expectations and what it means to be an elite athlete. You’ll be seeing these tracks on SKY soon.
Olympic team selections for Sailing, Canoe Slalom, and Dressage have been announced with 15 athletes announced into the team with more to follow over the next month, including rowing and athletics in March.
We look forward to seeing more athletes at London workshops over the next month as well as having more athletes named into the Olympic team so they can focus on training and the end goal of performing at the Games.
